Target : Individuals with intellectual disability
The life expectancy of people with intellectual disability has increased over the years. These individuals have as much medication needs as ordinary people. However there are not enough studies pointing out the medication problems associate with people living with intellectual disability.
In January 2016, a service team which consisted of 19 CUHK Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Chinese Medicine students, teacher and pharmacists visited a rehabilation hostel in Ma On Shan.
The team conducted basic health check, and medicaiton survey for 34 hostel residents with intellectual disabilities. Through particiating in this service, student volunteers gained first hand expereince on communicating with individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as understanding their habit, health background, and medication problems.
